Isn’t Chiropractic expensive?

Many people don’t consider Chiropractic because they think it’s too expensive. I guess it depends on what you think is expensive for what you are getting, but in our office the initial screening to see if you can be helped is done at our expense. Once we determine you are in the right place then an exam and X-rays may be ordered. If someone has insurance, then a standard co-pay amount would apply. If one doesn’t have insurance then that out of pocket expense can range from $50 - $175 depending on what is ordered. After that visit it is determined by the doctor the amount of services you may need for a given time period and that dollar amount is figured and a financial plan is arranged. A standard adult plan varies because of amount of time recommended and potential insurance coverage. We do offer very affordable plans allowing most everyone to be able to afford the Chiropractic care needed. It’s hard to answer yes or no to the question, “Is it expensive?” It depends, but you can be the judge after your initial visit.

Does my insurance cover Chiropractic?

Most plans have benefits that include Chiropractic. There is no way to generalize this answer simply because every single plan is different. There are so many variables like deductibles, in network, out of network and other unique factors regarding your plan. The way we handle insurance in our office is to take a copy of your card when you come in for the initial visit and our trained Financial Assistant calls your insurance company and asks very specific questions to determine your exact coverage in our office. You will know what your insurance coverage is in our office before you ever make a decision to become a patient.

How long does it take to be seen by a Chiropractor?

There are 2 answers to this question. When someone has never been seen in our office then the length of the first 2 visits are longer. The initial visit takes roughly 45 minutes, which includes filling out an application for care, watching a short educational video and then meeting with the doctor and his assistant to get all of the health history, the physical findings regarding your complaint and then taking X-rays if needed. A person will return on a separate visit that lasts about an hour where all findings, recommendations and cost will be reviewed and it will be determined if you are going to become a patient or not. The second answer is once a person becomes a patient a standard office visit takes between 10-20 minutes in and out. We are very efficient and your time in our office is maximized and really brief for what we do.

Does it hurt?

This is a tough question to answer because there are many variables. The biggest variable is how bad the pain is you already have and how bad your problem has gotten. Those cases tend to be uncomfortable the first few visits just because of the condition you are in. On average, the first few Chiropractic visits can sometimes lead to some soreness just like going to the gym, but rarely would a patient say to me it hurts to get Chiropractic care. We work with all types of people and truly cater to the needs of the patient. You will always provide  eedback to the adjustment so we know what your experience is.

How long do I have to come?

The answer to that question is simple. You can come as long as you want.  You don’t HAVE to come any more than you want, but to get the results you want you will most likely need to follow a recommended plan. Because most people have long-standing complaints and carry a list of bad habits that need to be unlearned and new ones trained, it can take months of intense work to get a person healthy, then years of proactive care. A person comes in for an initial screening. If it is determined our office can help then an exam and X-rays may be ordered. From that visit and with that information it is determined what is needed regarding length of care plan and frequency of visits. We have patients that have come from ranges of 1 visit to 5 years of regular, weekly visits. It really depends on the outcome you want and that will determine the length of care you choose.

When will I feel better?

A person could feel better seconds after a Chiropractic Adjustment depending on the complaint, but it can also take days to weeks to begin noticing relief. This response all depends on the level of damage and pain someone has in the beginning and also the health and age of a person. Many people notice positive changes within the first days to weeks under Chiropractic care. You have to remember unlike pain medications this is a natural process that is focused on helping your body resolve what is causing the pain and begin the healing. How long does it take for a skinned up knee to feel better? It varies right?

Is a Chiropractor a real Doctor?

Yes. I am a Board Certified and State of Missouri licensed Chiropractic Physician just like your other medical providers. I actually have very similar schooling to an M.D. with more emphasis on the physical function of the body with emphasis on Chiropractic adjustments instead of medicine and surgery.

Do I have to have X-rays?

No. We only take X-rays if necessary based on your initial exam. We will only take the necessary X-rays to determine how you can best be helped in our office. The reason we take X-rays are to rule out any possible reasons you shouldn’t be adjusted and to best learn how much damage your spine has.

Do you actually crack my back?

No. You may hear sounds like cracking, but it is called an adjustment of the spinal bones. You are hearing the release of pressure in the spinal joints and not actually cracking of the bones. The adjustment is very safe and effective.

Will my family doctor support me coming to a Chiropractor?

It depends on what type of doctor you go to and what their background in health is. Many Physicians are becoming more pro Chiropractic, but there are still a good number that are unfamiliar with what Chiropractic does and hesitate to refer or recommend Chiropractic. If your doctor would like to speak with us before recommending you choose Chiropractic we can arrange that.

Do I have to come the rest of my life?

No. You will only come as long as you choose. Many people learn to understand that just like anything in life like our teeth, our car, or other aspects of our health. One must regularly maintain these things if you expect to keep them in good condition and shape for life. Just like choosing exercise for life. Some people choose Chiropractic for life to be proactive with their health, but again this is your choice.
